This major national museum project charts Oman's history from deep time to the present day. Barker Langham led an integrated approach, simultaneously developing content, operations, business strategy, and institutional capacity from the outset. We collaborated with global specialists and local communities to represent over 200 exhibits with accuracy and care, drawing on archival material from Oman and abroad, and collecting original oral histories.
Extensive operations and feasibility studies were fundamental to establishing the museum's sustainable framework. The project included recruiting the first director and implementing an intensive training program for the Omani team, with a particular focus on developing young Omani talent. This training initiative, alongside a new learning programme, ensures the museum provides a space for Omanis to encounter their own stories in a new light–authentic, ambitious, and forward-facing.
