The Msheireb Museums in Doha tackle one of the most complex subjects in Gulf history: slavery. This is the focus of Bin Jelmood House – one of four museums in the restored heritage quarter – which explores the history of enslavement and its modern legacies with clarity and sensitivity. The other houses examine key aspects of 20th-century Qatari life, including family, trade, and the early oil industry. Barker Langham developed the masterplan and interpretation, shaped the content, strategy and business plan, and helped establish the organisational structure for operations and staffing. Bin Jelmood House, in particular, has been recognised for its courage and balance in opening a dialogue that had previously remained largely unspoken.
