At the 2023 American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting in Denver, Barker Langham contributed to the critical conversation on social and community impact.
Senior Consultant Yukiko Stranger-Galey presented Immortalised: How Museums Shape Memory, a poster delving into the complexities of memorialisation in the public realm. Developed for the event, the poster utilised Barker Langham’s signature storyboard approach—a dynamic tool visualising complex and challenging subjects in engaging ways. It explored the life cycle of memorials, examining how meanings shift over time and provoking questions about who we commemorate and why. The poster's provocative design aimed to stimulate debate around contested sites and the non-fixed nature of public memory. Building on Barker Langham's recurring work with themes of public commemoration, Immortalised challenged museum professionals to consider their institution's pivotal role in shaping memory. It prompted reflection on how museums can contextualise contested histories and foster responsible, inclusive approaches to commemoration moving forward.
