The House of Poetry, one of many traditional homes renovated as part of the fascinating pavilions in Dubai’s Al Shindagha Historic District, celebrates one of the most popular intangible artforms in Dubai and the UAE. The story of poetry’s evolution as an art form in the region is told through captivating performances and illuminating conversations where visitors discover the beauty and power of words and how they came to be embedded in the everyday lives of the UAE’s people. In our curatorial and interpretive work on the project, Barker Langham traced the movement of people, language and the arts in the Arabian Peninsula, exploring the origins of different poetry styles in the region and how they became the foundations of the UAE’s traditional performances.
